Reducing Plastic Usage in Merton

13 August 2018

Merton Green Party is strongly in favour of reducing the use of single-use plastics in Merton and we applaud local businesses and organisations taking action.

Well done to Morden coffee bars Tariro and CocoBeanz for joining the Refill London scheme, under which they publicise their willingness to fill up thirsty people's water bottles with tap water so they don't buy a plastic one.  Merton greens drew the scheme to the attention of Love Morden, who publicised it - Sustainable Merton are also doing so.

Our membership officer, John Boyd has asked Merton Council if they would ban single-use plastics from their premises, as Parliament has done.  They replied that they were exploring what could be done with their catering contractor. We will chase up progress of this in due course and will keep you posted.

Please get in touch with us if you know of anyone taking action to reduce plastic usage in Merton. By sharing ideas we can all work to play our part.
