Merton Council currently requires 40% of units in new housing developments to be "affordable". It is welcomed that Merton Council's new draft Local Plan for Housing proposes a 50% increase for public sector land. However, in their draft proposal, there is provision to REDUCE this to 35% for private land. At a time when genuinely affordable housing is in such short supply, we see no justification for such a reduction, thus Merton Green Party will be objecting to this reduction.
