Siân Berry, Green Party candidate for Mayor and London Assembly member, spoke to a packed hall in Battersea on 14 March about London's housing crisis and the steps needed to tackle it.
These steps included rent controls, changing the definition of "affordable" housing and compelling developers to meet their obligations to provide it, and more help for private renters to enforce their rights. Siân has analysed the shortfall in "affordable" housing compared with what should have been provided if the policy requirement of 40% of new homes being affordable had been met. In Merton there was a shortfall of 500 homes since 2016.
