Merton Green Party's Tom Killick has been pressing Merton Council on reducing and eliminating its usage of single use plastics in all council buildings.
Merton Council's report on steps it might take to reduce its use of single use plastics is deeply disappointing in its narrow focus and complete absence of firm proposals for action or timescales. Merton Greens have been pressing the Council since last summer to take action to stop the sale of single-use plastics on its premises. It has made no progress, claiming it is constrained by the terms of its contract with a private supplier. It should pursue the option of changing the terms of the contract but has not done so. The report can be found here.
