A state secondary school English teacher for thirteen years, a Media Arts university tutor during the completion of my doctorate, and now a trainee case worker for a local user-led deaf and disabled people's organisation, as well as a carer for my father, I first lived in Merton in the late 1970s and returned in 2013 when I was lucky enough to move into the property in which my grandparents were the first council tenants in the 1950s. I take a keen interest in local issues - such as the devastating impact of 'austerity' upon public services, the council’s outsourcing of both waste management and the management of our green spaces, the burgeoning role of housing associations in the wake of a transfer of housing stock formerly owned by the council, the dearth of truly affordable housing, the various proposals to 'reconfigure' healthcare provision, the chronic underfunding of adult social care, and high levels of air pollution - always working hard to hold elected representatives to account, and determined to help improve the area. Furthermore, I have stood as a candidate for my ward twice, am the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Mitcham and Morden, and am Election Agent for my local party.
